Important UC/CSU Admission Updates

Post
Class of 2020, Seniors

UC – here are a few of the important changes for Fall 2020 admission to the UC campuses:

  • UC will accept A-G courses completed during Spring 2020 with Pass (P) in place of a letter grade. For example if a student completes “English 4” with a “P” they will have fulfilled their a-g requirement for senior year English and the “P” will not negatively impact their GPA.
  • The deadline for students to accept their admissions offers remains May 1 for college freshmen. However, campuses have been asked to provide a lot of flexibility for students who request extensions. Students should contact campus admissions offices directly with these requests.

  • UC will also provide flexibility to students and schools who are unable to submit transcripts by July 1. No student’s admission offer will be cancelled for missing the deadline.

  • A-G courses completed in spring 2020 with Pass (P) grades will satisfy appropriate A-G requirements for the UC. For example if a student completes “English 11” with a “P” they will have fulfilled their a-g requirement for junior year English and the “P” will not negatively impact their GPA.

  • UC is temporarily suspending the standardized test requirement (SAT/ACT) for students applying for fall 2021 freshman admission only. Meaning students are not required to submit test scores for Fall 2021 admission.

  • Students applying for fall 2021 who are able to take standardized tests (SAT or ACT) and send scores may do so, scores can support their statewide UC eligibility, application for certain scholarships, and help them fulfill some University graduation requirements. Campuses will make sure that no student is harmed in admissions selection should they not submit a test score.

Class of 2022 and 2023, Freshmen and Sophomores

UC has temporarily suspended the letter grade requirement for A-G courses completed in spring 2020 for all students,  A-G courses completed in spring 2020 with Pass (P) grades will satisfy appropriate A-G requirements. For example if a student completes “English 10” with a “P” they will have fulfilled their a-g requirement for sophomore year English and the “P” will not negatively impact their GPA.

CSU will consider course grades of “credit” or “pass” as fulfilling “a-g” requirements for those courses completed during winter, spring, or summer 2020 terms. All other coursework must be graded and a grade of C- or better must be earned for the course to satisfy “a-g” requirements. Grades of credit/pass or no credit/no pass will not be included in the calculation of high school GPA.
