Here is hoping your week has been good! A few reminders follow, a mix of new and old, as well as news from around the campus.
As always, should you have questions, please contact a staff member at (916) 395-5090.
Speech & Debate
It’s been a great start to the speech and debate season! Duringa recent tournament at Nevada Union, Rohit Jhawar (‘18) took first place in Congressional Debate (again) while Bernadette Tropel earned the top spot as Presiding Officer.
Go, Cougar Debate!
A hearty congrats. to the water polo team who brought home a shiny trophy from last weekend’s meet. And, I understand that on top of their athletic ability, they were gracious sports!
Pictures are posted to Kennedy’s various social media platforms. Way to go, Water Polo!
Junior and Senior families: Credit recovery courses begins Monday, September 24 during periods zero and seven. If you believe your student is in need of a seat, check to be sure that they received notice. If they have not, please contact a school counselor.
Counseling staff is available via e-mail or by phone at (916) 395-5090, extension 506058.
The counseling team, led by Assistant Principal Fry, is actively “leveling” class sizes in order to meet all teacher contract obligations and to ensure an optimal learning environment. As a result, a few students will receive schedule changes today.
As always, we do our utmost to limit disruptions – if affected, in most cases, your student will have the same teachers, but the classes may be during different periods. I appreciate your patience and understanding.
Should you have questions or concerns please contact your student’s counselor or me.
Friends & Family
Please join the JFK Marching Band and Color Guard for our annual Friends and Family Night tomorrow, 9/22, at 7:30 p.m. Come enjoy music, ice cream, and community!
Class of 2020
Eat out, and support JFK! Chipotle, at the corner of Sutterville Rd. and Freeport Blvd., is giving back one-third of every sale on Tuesday, 9/25 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m..
Be sure to mention “JFK Class of 2020!”
Athletics Hall of Fame
The Athletics department will induct the inaugural “class” into the Kennedy Hall of Fame this coming spring. If you know a worthy candidate, please nominate!
Last week, your student should have received a copy of the District’s annual parent and student rights handbook. A parent survey was included. Known as the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) data collection survey, the results, when reported to the State, directly affect District and site funding allocations. Your data is essential to ensure Kennedy receives what it is due.
Please complete this survey and return it to the school by October 31. Your help is much appreciated!
The PSAT is fast approaching! All ninth and tenth graders will participate in the PSAT on October 10 during periods one through four. Students will receive practice materials on September 24 from their English teacher. Please follow the embedded links for more information about the PSAT.
Should you have questions, please contact Assistant Principal Buitrago @ Vanessa-Buitrago@scusd.edu.
