The Kennedy ELA Department offers a range of courses designed to meet students’ diverse interests and developmental levels. All classes engage students with a wide range of complex texts (fiction, nonfiction, prose, and poetry) and emphasize thoughtful discussion and clear, respectful communication.

Our core college-preparatory sequence includes English 9, 10, 11, and 12 (ERWC), all aligned with state and UC A–G requirements. We also offer ELD courses, Journalism, and advanced coursework such as AP English Language and Composition (11th), AP English Literature and Composition (12th), and courses supporting the AP Capstone Diploma and Certificate programs.

Students are encouraged to select courses aligned with their goals and to participate in enrichment opportunities such as essay contests and Poetry Out Loud.
