A quick note to advise that phone service (landline), both incoming to the school and outgoing from the school, is currently limited and unreliable. This issue has developed over the last hour or two due to damage from last night’s storm.
District staff is currently working to resolve the matter and has issued communication indicating that phones should be back to normal by 12:00 noon.
Should I receive additional pertinent information, I will be sure to share.
Monday, January 23 is the first day of final exams.
Senior Advertisements (Yearbook)
Reminder: all senior “ads” (tributes, buddies, and elementary reunion) need to ordered in advance. There is no guarantee that there will be room in the yearbook for ads that are submitted but have not been ordered.
The faculty, staff and I wish you a happy, restful winter break. As a reminder, tomorrow (Friday) is a full day; contrary to rumor, school does not release early.
School will resume on Monday, January 9.
Monday, January 16 is a school holiday in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.
During extended periods of vacation, schools sometimes become targets for vandals. If you see anything at or around the school that raises your suspicion, please take the time to report it. Vandalism is expensive and disruptive.
A tradition at Kennedy, each class raises funds to sponsor a “Sober Grad. Night” celebration to be held on the night of graduation. It takes about three years to raise the money needed for this final high school activity (sponsored solely by parents and guardians).
The District’s new “one application” procedure for admittance to high school specialty programs is now live. If you know a family who may be interested in one of Kennedy’s unique program offerings, information is available here.
A very hearty shout-out to the always excellent Kennedy marching band and color guard! A big win occurred in Stockton over the Thanksgiving holiday as the band took first place in the division, color guard placed first overall, woodwinds second, and brass third. Wow!
Way to go, Mr. Hammond, young musicians, and families! Check out our Facebook page for a great pic. of the marching band in Stockton!
Senior Portraits will be taken by Studio Monet on campus during the morning of November 15. Seniors who have not had their portrait taken for the yearbook will be photographed. Students will be notified and receive a personal appointment notice during the prior week.
A fantastic opportunity follows for students under pressure by the college application process. Counselors are available to help! Please click here for more information.
A quick reminder that the school-wide dress code policy applies to all costumes worn at school in celebration of Halloween. Anything that disguises the face (excessive make-up, mask, paint) will not be permitted.
This year, the District is providing students with access to a digital resource known as Google Apps for Education. Google Apps allows students to create and store documents, study, and collaborate anywhere there is an Internet connection. Please read more about this important resource here.
“Last chance” senior portraits will occur at school on Tuesday, November 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Any senior who has not had a portrait taken by Studio Monet will receive an appointment notice during the prior week.
The senior class group photo will happen in the quad during third period on November 2. Seniors are encouraged to wear school colors.
The Kennedy Counseling department will host College Night on Thursday, October 13 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the auditorium. All families and students are invited to attend. Presenters will include Sacramento City College, the University of California, Davis, Sacramento State University, and the University of the Pacific (UOP).
College Night is an excellent opportunity to learn more about college admissions, financial aid options, and campus life.
The 2016-17 student handbook is available here. The handbook contains valuable information pertaining to academics, graduation, university admittance requirements, behavior, dress code, and other school policies. This is good reading for students and their families alike!
As promised, additional information follows with regard to Back to School Night (B2SN):
I look forward to seeing you at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, at Back to School Night.
Here is your homework: please retrieve your child’s schedule via Infinite Campus or have him or her write it down for you. When you arrive, you will receive a program and a campus map. You will then visit classrooms and meet teachers.
