Emergency Drill

Sometime during the next two weeks, a biannual emergency lockdown drill will be conducted. A lockdown occurs when a perceived threat is determined to be serious enough that a shelter in place order is given. Our unannounced drill may take place during instructional or unstructured time. Faculty and staff have been provided with information with which to prepare students.

Please take time to remind your student to always treat the school’s lockdown alarm seriously. Students sometimes come to assume that “it’s only a drill.” Although no drill can completely prepare us for the many possible scenarios that exist, it is important that we practice basic and appropriate response.

Should you have questions about the drill and/or the school’s emergency procedures and protocols, please feel free to contact me.

2017-18 School Calendar

The Board of Trustees has adopted a school calendar for the 2017-18 school year. School will begin on Thursday, August 31, 2017.

Please click here to view the calendar.

Graduation & A-G Requirements

As counselors continue with course selection for the 2017-18 school year, I want to remind you that sometime during the next several weeks your student should share courses that their counselor and they selected for next year.

I also wish to provide you with a copy of high school graduation and A-G college/university admission requirements. This document is used by the counselors and shared with students. The A-G prerequisites are minimums and are applicable to the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) systems. Admission demands at out-of-state and private institutions may differ.

Kennedy’s course catalog is available here and contains additional information.

Should you have a question regarding graduation and/or college entrance requirements, please contact your student’s counselor @ (916) 395-5090.

Spring Concert

The annual spring concert is scheduled for (tomorrow) Thursday, March 9 at 7:00 p.m. Come to the auditorium to see the talent that is the John F. Kennedy Music department!

For the last several years, the concert has functioned as a benefit event. This year, the band leadership has chosen “Doctors Without Borders” as the beneficiary. To support this benefit, a $5 donation (at the door) is requested.

Pledge to Stop Underage Drinking

Last December, students in the after-school program known as “Friday Night Live” surveyed over 500 high school-aged students about alcohol.

Friday Night Live is hoping to increase awareness among families and community members regarding alcohol in order to prevent underage drinking.

Please pledge to help stop underage drinking. Everyone must do their part to create positive change in our neighborhoods. The community member pledge is available here.
