The Men’s Leadership Academy (MLA) is Sacramento City Unified School District’s (SCUSD) conscious effort to intentionally combat the school-to-prison-pipeline for underserved low-income male students of color by creating supportive learning environments.
The Men’s Leadership Academy will start today after school at 3:15 in Room E3. All young men who interested in life coaching, mentoring and tutoring are encourage to join. Please stop by ASSETs to sign up with Ms. Cooper.
Students in John F. Kennedy High School’s Men’s Leadership Academy enjoyed snowboarding over Spring Break, a trip sponsored by Sacramento Police Department and Sacramento County Probation.
“The weather made the trip more challenging with a steady snowfall all day, but I think it added a unique experience for the young men that went to the snow for the first time,” says School Resource Officer Adam Feuerbach, one of the chaperones.
The excursion was funded by the Sacramento Police Foundation.
To empower young men to become lifelong learners and globally competitive leaders – to be resilient, responsible and respectful men – SCUSD is piloting a Men’s Leadership Academy. The Academy is modeled after a successful program in Long Beach that emerged out of the “Long Beach Promise.” The work is supported by a $40,000 grant from The California Endowment.
